New lineage of filamentous, spore-forming, gram-positive bacteria from soil.
A novel bacterial strain that was isolated from an Italian soil and was designated SOSP1-21T forms branched mycelia in solid and liquid media and has a filamentous morphology similar to that of some genera belonging to the Actinobacteria. Electron microscopy showed that this organism has a grape-like appearance, resulting from interlacing of spores originating from sporophoric hyphae. Ten strai...

We isolated a replication-thermosensitive mutant of the broad-host-range replicon pWV01. The mutant pVE6002 is fully thermosensitive above 35 degrees C in both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Four clustered mutations were identified in the gene encoding the replication protein of pVE6002. The thermosensitive derivative of the related plasmid pE194 carries a mutation in the analogous r...
متن کاملTolerance of Heavy Metals by Gram Positive Soil Bacteria
With the intention of screening for heavy metal tolerance, a number of bacteria were isolated and characterized from a pristine soil. Two Gram positive isolates were identified as Paenibacillus sp. and Bacillus thuringeinsis. Tolerance of Cd, Cu and Zn by these bacteria was studied and found that both bacteria were highly sensitive to Cu compared to other two metals. Both bacteria showed the sa...
متن کاملIsolation of Gram-positive Bacteria from Different Sources and Evaluation of their Probiotic Properties
Introduction: Probiotics are defined as live non-pathogenic microorganisms and if administered in adequate amounts, can have beneficial effects on their hosts. This study aimed to isolate Gram-positive bacteria from different sources and to evaluate their probiotic properties. Methods: We obtained five samples from various sources including yogurt, infant feces, cheese, and soil under aseptic m...
متن کاملMethods for distinguishing gram-positive from gram-negative bacteria.
Lysis by KOH and hydrolysis of L-alanine-4-nitroanilide were compared with the Gram reaction of aerobic, microaerophilic, and anaerobic bacteria. Both tests correlated well with the Gram reaction with nonfermentative bacilli and Bacillus species, whereas they did not correlate with nonsporulating anaerobes. Only campylobacteria were KOH positive and L-alanine-4-nitroanilide and gram negative.
